In Papers, Please the player plays as a documents inspector at a border checkpoint in a fictional Eastern European country named Arstotzka. The player must earn a wage each day to provide heat, food, shelter, and medicine for their family. The player is paid based on how many documents they inspect each day. Making a mistake while inspecting a document leads to a reduction in the player’s wage. The storyline branches depending on the player’s choices about who to let through, whether to accept bribes, and other actions that the player can take.

BioShock 2 Review

BioShock 2 is a first person shooter in which the player controls Delta, a Big Daddy. Delta is revived after having been dead for a number of years and must rescue Eleanor Lamb, a girl he was charged with protecting, from Dr. Sophia Lamb, a psychologist and Eleanor’s mother. Delta has a drill for an arm.

simian.interface Review

simian.interface is a puzzle game where the player is tasked with manipulating the game in order to align various two and three dimensional objects. When the objects are correctly aligned, the player progresses to the next level. Aligning objects requires ascertaining their location and orientation and discovering which direction of manipulation will lead to alignment.

Mass Effect 3 Omega DLC Review

The Mass Effect 3 Omega DLC is downloadable content for the third game in the Mass Effect series.  It allows the player to visit the eponymous Omega, a space station that has been taken over by Cerberus. While on the space station, the player can engage in conversations, shoot enemies, and locate a couch.

Portal Review

In Portal, the player controls a character in a testing facility made up of a series of test chambers. The player uses a device that creates the eponymous portals on flat surfaces. The player can enter one portal and exit the other so as to traverse through the world in contradiction to the rules of Euclidean geometrical space. This device allows the player to solve puzzle in each test chamber and progress to the end of the game.

The Swapper Review

The Swapper is a sidescrolling puzzle platformer game where the player takes control of a character in a space suit equipped with the eponymous Swapper, a device that allows the character to clone themselves multiple times. The player uses this device to solve puzzles and progress though a space station in order to beat the game.

Proteus Review

In Proteus the player explores an island. The island is uniquely generated each time the player plays the game. The player is able to interact with things on the island, including its flora and fauna, by walking near these things. During the player’s playthrough, the island can change.

BioShock Review

BioShock is a first person shooter in which the player controls Jack, who must explore an underwater city full of enemies after his plane crashes in the middle of the ocean. The player progresses through the city to discover why it is full of people trying to kill Jack and each other, and eventually the player fights a final boss.

Actual Sunlight Review

In Actual Sunlight, the player controls Evan Winter, a man who lives in Toronto. The player moves through the world by controlling Evan with the arrow keys. The player can interact with objects in order to trigger various screens with text, and the player can also engage in conversation with other characters.
