Deus Ex is a first person shooter with role playing elements in which the player takes control of JC Denton, a nano-machine augmented agent working for the anti-terrorist agency UNATCO. JC is tasked with various missions which take place in various levels that allow the player to roam around, talk to people, and approach the objectives in a variety of ways with a variety of tools. The player can also shoot a basketball.

Insurgency Review

Insurgency is a team-based tactical first person shooter in which players fight against the enemy team in order to accomplish objectives. Players can aim down iron sights in Insurgency to fire bullets more accurately, and they die when shot with a few bullets. Players respawn in waves after a period of time, as long as their team has respawn waves remaining or is able to capture a control point. The game includes a coop mode against AI opponents.

Strike Vector Review

Strike Vector is a multiplayer flight sim shooter in which the player pilots an eponymous strike vector, a flying vehicle that can fly through the air in Vector mode and hover in Harrier mode. Varied weapons and customizations allow players to employ different tactics, such as using a cloaking device to get close to enemies unnoticed in order to destroy them with a shotgun or using a speed boost and homing missiles to evade enemy fire while simultaneously engaging the enemy. When the player is killed, they can steer their destroyed strike vector in an effort to crash into an enemy.

Receiver Review

Receiver is a first person shooter in which the player controls a character with a floating gun who moves around an area attempting to absorb cassette tapes. The area is randomly populated by robotic turrets and drones, which attack the player when they spot the player. The various parts of the player’s gun, like the slide and the magazine, are each controlled individually by the player. Throughout the game, the player learns about the upcoming Mindkill and learns that this is a time that has been prepared for.

RAGE is a game in which the player takes control of Nicholas Raine, a marine who emerges from an underground hibernation vault into a post-apocalyptic Earth. Nicholas then aids a rebellion against the ruling authority, which is known as “the Authority,” by shooting Authority soldiers and doing whatever else the leaders of the rebellion ask of him. Throughout this process the player engages in car races and can play a card game and pick flowers.

Alpha Protocol is a third person RPG in which the player controls Mike Thorton, a secret agent recruited into the eponymous Alpha Protocol, an intelligence agency. Mike is tasked with assassinating a terrorist responsible for an attack on an aircraft. After reaching the end of that mission, the player is then given a series of missions that they can go on, some of which are optional and all of which involve conversations and choices. Between missions, the player can answer emails, purchase weapons, and grow a beard. With the correct skills, Mike can slow down time and fire multiple pistol shots, sense enemies through walls, and punch harder.

Mirror’s Edge is a first person platformer game with shooting and puzzle elements. The player controls Faith, a “runner.” Runners traverse the rooftops and streets of a city to deliver packages. In the game, the player delivers one package in the prologue and then becomes embroiled in a plot that does not involve delivering packages. Faith must navigate through the city by jumping, climbing, running, riding in elevators, and engaging in other acrobatic maneuvers while also encountering enemies, helicopters, and enemy helicopters.

Jaden undertakes a variety of missions, learns a lesson about the value of friendship, and kills multiple enemies.
